As is the case with every female, you may feel the need to get pampered, especially when it comes to going out on a special occasion. One of the ways you can procure that elegant look is to do a French manicure. But just because you may feel the need to get a French manicure, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to spend £20-£30 at a nail salon. Contrary to popular belief, you can do a perfect french manicure at home. Here are the steps to doing just that.
Before you begin, ensure that you have the following materials:
- Clear nail polish
- Nail guide (optional)
- Nail file
- Nail polish color a – This is the color you will use as the tip color.
- Nail polish color b – This is the color you will use a the base color for the remaining portions of the nail.
1) Prep Your Nails
Once you have gathered all the necessary materials, the first thing you need to do is to prepare your nails. When it comes to doing this, the first thing you should do is to wash and massage your hands. This can help to get rid of any dirt or grime that may be lying on the surface of the nail which can affect the results of the manicure.
The next thing you should do is to file and trim your nails. A good tip to follow is that your nail should be pointing upwards, yet it should have a gentle curve that connects the opposite sides of your nails, similarly to a crescent moon.
Once you have filed and trim your nails, wash your hands again to get rid of the residue.
2) Nail Guide Method
When it comes to applying a French manicure you have to options at your disposal, the first of which is by utilizing a guide and the latter, we will cover in step 2b.
When it comes to using the guide technique, apply a guide to each individual finger, below the point where your nail goes from being transparent to white. Additionally, as you apply the guide to each individual finger, ensure that you press it down firmly, so that the tip color that you utilize doesn’t run over unto the rest of your nails. Therefore, ensure that you do one hand at a time.
Take color A (Tip Color) and paint the tip portion of your nail in an upward position.
Do this for each in individual nail, let it dry and repeat the process with your other hand.
Go to step 3.
2b) Freehand Method
The other method that you have at your disposal when it comes to applying the tip color is the freehand method. Freehand essentially means that you will paint the tip color, without the utilization of a nail guide.
By using nail polish color a (tip color), swipe from the tip of your nail, to the other. Repeat each nail and let it dry and then do the same for you other hand.
The next thing you’ll need to do to ensure that the tip color procures a crescent moon look is to apply nail polish remover in a circular motion on the bottom layer of your nail, directly beneath the tip color so that you can procure that crescent moon look.
3) The Finish
To finish your french manicure, take nail polish color b (base color) and pain the remaining portions of your nail. When it comes to the amount of coating that you should apply, 1-2 will do just fine.
Once you have done that with each individual finger, allow it to dry completely apply a top coat to each nail and repeat this process with your other hand.
